TULSA-PRO® (Transurethral Ultrasound Ablation) is a minimally invasive treatment that uses directional ultrasound energy to precisely destroy prostate tissue. The procedure is performed under real-time MRI guidance, allowing the physician to monitor the treatment continuously and control exactly where energy is delivered within the prostate. This advanced imaging and robotic control help protect surrounding structures such as the urethra and rectum.
During the procedure, a small ultrasound applicator is inserted into the urethra. The device emits controlled ultrasound energy outward into the prostate gland, gently heating and destroying targeted tissue. MRI thermometry provides continuous temperature feedback so the physician can monitor the treatment in real time and adjust the therapy as needed. Because the energy is delivered from inside the prostate outward, the treatment can be customized to treat a specific tumor or a larger portion of the gland when appropriate.
TULSA-PRO does not require surgical incisions or radiation therapy. It is typically performed as a minimally invasive outpatient procedure and is designed to precisely target prostate tissue while reducing the risk of damage to surrounding nerves and structures responsible for urinary and sexual function.
This technology may be used to treat localized prostate cancer and, in some cases, benign prostate enlargement (BPH). The ability to visualize the prostate during treatment allows physicians to tailor therapy to each patient’s anatomy and the specific characteristics of their condition.
